A note from Gus Chrysson '08, President and coordinator: Music at ECNYU has thus far functioned as a way for the entire assembly (choir and congregation) to sing hymns and mass settings. From time to time, the choir will offer an offertory anthem, and often music during communion. It can be said that we are at a crossroads, because my vision for this group is just getting started. Next year at this time, I hope to see instrumentalists (not just classical ones, either!), and vocalists galore. Hopefully, our liturgies can reflect a broad tradition of music from around the world, and a high level of participation from everyone present. We have plans to incorporate music from South Africa, and Latin America. Naturally, we'll continue with our church selections from the western classical tradition, as well. In the weeks past, folk hymns from various traditions have crept into our liturgies, and probably will re- appear often. Joining the music program is easy as pie! Just ask on Sunday, and you're in. You don't have to be a virtuoso, nor do you have to sign away your life to rehearsals. You will find, however, a fun group of people and yet another aspect of liturgical participation. So...it is with great pleasure that I invite everyone to 'sing to the Lord a new song'; or an old one! Email Gus for more info: Gus Chrysson. ![]() |
